Shrimp Welfare Project (SWP) is delighted to announce a transformative partnership with Thuan Phuoc Seafoods and Trading Corporation (Thuan Phuoc Corp.), Labeyrie Fine Foods, and LP Foods to advance shrimp welfare through the Humane Slaughter Initiative. This collaboration highlights the shared commitment of these industry leaders to fostering ethical and sustainable practices in shrimp farming.

Thuan Phuoc Corp. is one of Vietnam's leading seafood producers and exporters and joined the Humane Slaughter Initiative with a pledge to integrate humane electrical stunning technology into their production chain. This step marks a significant move towards more ethical practices in their operations. Thuan Phuoc Corp. already prioritises sustainable farming, quality control, and animal welfare. For example, they are committed to eliminating the use of post-larvae from ablated broodstock, a practice that negatively impacts shrimp welfare, and adhere to stringent health and disease management protocols, including biosecurity measures and proper pond preparation.

Labeyrie Fine Foods has a rich 75-year heritage of providing high-quality products, and brings its vision of "Sharing a responsible passion for food." The company is dedicated to responsible sourcing and has co-constructed a policy on animal well-being, which is central to their operations in the shrimp, duck, and salmon sectors. By aligning with the Humane Slaughter Initiative, Labeyrie Fine Foods reaffirms its commitment to ethical practices and environmental sustainability, ensuring that its products meet the highest standards of quality and responsibility.

LP Foods, a global leader in responsible seafood sourcing, has also committed to prioritising stunned shrimps in their supply chain. Known for their BRCGS Grade AA certification and dedication to non-chemical, responsibly sourced seafood, LP Foods continues to lead in setting high standards for food safety and quality management. 

This collaboration between SWP, Thuan Phuoc Corp., Labeyrie Fine Foods and LP Foods is a powerful example of how industry leaders can come together to drive positive change in shrimp farming.

By prioritising humane slaughter methods and comprehensive welfare measures, this partnership not only benefits the welfare of millions of farmed shrimps but also sets a precedent for the entire industry, encouraging other companies to adopt similar ethical practices.
